Tyler State Park Lake at Sunset

I visited Tyler State Park recently. It is located deep in the woods of East Texas about halfway between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. President FDR’s Civilian Conservation Corps created the park between 1935 and 1941, and some of the original buildings are still in use. There are tons of camping sites for tent camping, RV camping and there are also cabins to rent, so it covers various levels of roughing it. It has a 64 acre lake that is popular for kayaking, canoeing and swimming as well as fishing. The park also has miles of trails including a 2.1 mile trail that goes all the way around the lake.

I was hiking the lake trail when I found this location, then I went back and grabbed my camera gear and hiked the entire route around the lake to check out other locations. There are quite a few, but this one really stood out to me. I really like how the shape of the cove makes like a winding, mirrored pathway into the distance lined with the grass and then the trees.

About an hour before sunset I headed back to this location, set up my equipment, and waited. Since this was not going to be a direct shot of the sun setting (it was hidden by the trees to the left), I was hoping that the clouds would stick around and that I would see some nice color reflected in them from the setting sun. I was not disappointed! This was the scene just before the sun set completely, which produced these amazing colors that reflected off the tranquil waters of the small cove.
