Description
Narrows Canyon in the Wichita Mountains
This is the northwest end of Narrows Canyon in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Preserve in Southwest Oklahoma.
It is a little difficult to find and a decent hike from the closest parking, but well worth the effort in my opinion. The trails can get a little confusing because they cross other trails made by wildlife, and if you follow the wrong trail, you will end up somewhere else and have to double back and find the actual hiking trail. I learned this the hard way. But I did get to see some more of the area from a different angle, so it wasn’t a bad thing. There are actually hiking trails on both sides of the canyon, so there are two ways to access this.
The rocks are all granite, the same as they use to make counter tops. And when they are wet, they are quite slippery!
It is extremely quiet here with the exception of the water going over this series of three small falls, which makes for an awesome location to stop and enjoy the calming sense of peace and tranquility. It is also an excellent area to keep a landscape photographer and nature photographer busy for days!
