The BattleShip Texas, located at the San Jacinto Battlegrounds neat Houston, Texas, was first launched in 1912 and commissioned USS Texas on March 12, 1914. At that time she was the most powerful weapon in the world.
She saw action in both World Wars including the North African campaign, Normandy Landings, and Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
The BattleShip Texas was the first US Navy vessel to house a permanently assigned contingent of US Marines. It was the first US BattleShip to mount anti-aircraft guns. it was the first US BattleShip to launch an aircraft. It was the first US Battleship to become a permanent museum ship. And it was the first battleship to be declared a US National Historic Landmark.
