Description
This shows how much the Earth is moving over just a 20 minute period of time.
The star in the center that everything appears to be rotating around is Polaris. It is in line with the Earth's rotational axis to the north, and as the earth spins, the stars appear to be rotating around that star.
The surface speed of the Earth as it is spinning is different depending on where you are located. At the equator, the speed is roughly 1040 miles per hour. In Houston the speed is a little more than 900 miles per hour.
