I learned something new when colorizing these. All film isn't equal. Seems that film back in the 1860's used a process that turned the color scale on its head. With modern films, a color like yellow will look kind of white, red usually looks black, green is a midtone and so on. But with the Wet Colloidal process, yellow looks black, red is a midtone, and green can be anything.
So when people colorize images from this period, or make scale models, or even paint current trains to look like the old ones, its really an educated guess and hopeful historical records.
This train did have an insane amount of pinstripe detail, a good portion of time i spent was just on that. I also had some trouble separating the sky from the stacks. The original was really washed out, and I ended up rebuilding some of it. Also there was a lot of paper texture in this.
